Maddie Thomas Optical Assistant BA (Hons)

Maddie started her career in Optics in 2012. Over the years she’s worked across admin, dispensing and contact lenses, supporting the optometrist with pre-screening and clinical handovers and working to improve her knowledge within the field. She passed her Level 3 exam last year.
She really enjoys spending time with patients, dispensing glasses which suit their personality and lifestyle while providing a bespoke, friendly service.

Outside of work, Maddie writes fiction and is a self-published author. Her interests include reading, bird-watching and cooking.

“Glasses can be an extension of you. Whether it’s for function or fashion, I’ll help you find the perfect look.”

Grace Lanning

Grace Lanning Lead Optometrist BSc(Hons) McOptom, Prof Cert LV, Prof Cert Glauc, Prof Cert Med Ret

Originally from Shropshire, Grace moved to South Wales to study optometry at School of Optometry and Vision Science at Cardiff University, where she graduated with First Class Honours in 2015. She has since gone on to complete further post graduate qualifications, gaining The College of Optometrists Professional Certificate in Low Vision, Glaucoma and Medical Retina. She is also currently working towards becoming an Independent Prescriber, which will enable her to diagnose and manage a range of eye conditions in practice, which would previously have had to be referred to hospital.

Away from optics, Grace enjoys sea swimming, cooking, and spending time with her young family.

“Working at Annette Dobbs means I have both the time and equipment to provide my patients with the best possible level of care, which is the most rewarding part about being an Optometrist.”

Fliss Allen

Fliss Allen Optical Assistant

Fliss started in Optics 8 years ago in 2016, working in practice as a pre-screener using visual field equipment and fundus technology. She progressed into the domiciliary service, providing home care to patients with limited mobility. Fliss joined the Annette Dobbs Eyecare team in 2021 and has since broadened her skills, passing her Optical Assistant level 2 examination last year, advancing to dispensing and providing high quality frame consultations.

In her spare time she loves to create art, primarily drawing.

“I enjoy using my own personable skillset to give the best service and care to our patients.”

Sara Mozaffar

Sara Mozaffar Practice Manager Certified Opthalmologist Technician

Sara’s career in Optics began in 2007. She started at an independent practice in California, acquiring her Clinician and Dispensing license at twenty-two years old, making her the second youngest person in the state to pass these exams.

She spent time working for an ophthalmologist in Florida before returning to the U.K in 2011, where she completed courses with the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Wearers. Over the years she has managed practices, from Manchester to Bristol, finally settling in South Wales. Sara has been Practice Manager at Annette Dobbs Eyecare since 2018, earning herself the Practice Manager of the Year at Optometry Wales Awards in 2023.

Patient care is her priority; she always ensures the patient journey is wonderful from the moment they enter the practice, until they leave. Sara enjoys playing electric guitar and drawing. She values quality time with her family and travelling.

“The most rewarding part of my role in Optics is patient care, helping people to see, feel and look good”
